Editorial Standards

These standards govern how Kijiji News gathers, verifies and publishes news. Every member of our editorial team is expected to uphold them.

Accuracy

We verify facts before publication. Where a claim cannot be independently verified it is attributed to the source. We correct errors promptly and transparently.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made free from commercial, political or other external influence. Reporters disclose potential conflicts of interest to editors.

Fairness

We give subjects of reporting a fair opportunity to respond before publication where this is practicable.

Sources

Sources are named wherever possible. Anonymous sources are used only when there is a compelling public-interest justification and the source cannot be protected otherwise. We do not pay sources for information.

Harm limitation

We take care to minimise harm to individuals and communities while serving the public interest. We are especially careful in reporting on children, victims of crime and vulnerable individuals.

AI policy

Our use of artificial intelligence is governed by our separate AI policy.

Corrections

Errors are corrected promptly. Significant corrections are noted on the original article. See our corrections page.
